In September....

The 2020-21 school year definitely looks a little different from years past! Music classes are taking place in the homeroom teachers' classrooms instead of the music room. While we all miss being in the music room, everyone has adjusted well!

The month of September is mainly a month to review and strengthen skills from previous years.  This gives students the foundational skills needed for the new skills and concepts we will be learning soon!

Kindergarten will experience contrasts in music such as Fast/Slow, Loud/Soft, High/Low and Beat/No Beat.  We also practice the steady beat as well as using our 4 voices: Speaking,Singing, Whisper, and Calling.

1st Grade is reviewing many of the skills and concepts above as well as simple rhythms "ta and ta-di", and pitches "sol" and mi". They have enjoyed moving to songs like "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" , "I Can Sing A High Note" and "Radetzky March".

2nd Grade is also reviewing "sol","mi", and preparing to learn "la" very soon. They are also reviewing "ta" and "ta-di"  and quarter rest. They have enjoyed learning basic musical concepts such as high/low/, tempo, and dynamics and are getting really good at using the Italian musical terms when describing them.

3rd Grade is focused on "mi", "re" and "do" as well as quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes and rests. They are also learning basic elements of music such as tempo and dynamics. Each week we have learned about a different family of instruments.
