Welcome to the 2019 - 2020 school year!!!

I am looking forward to the 2019-2020 school year!  I will have resource intervention in Math and Reading for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade students. Mrs. Cross is the paraprofessional that works with me in the classroom.  I am excited about working with both my returning students as well as my new students this year!  I am looking forward to creating a fun and challenging learning environment to help your child learn and find success in the classroom.

MATH

The Camelot Math program has 5 areas of study (Number Friends, Number Sense, Computation, Geometry/Measurement, and Fractions/Decimals).  Students are pre-tested and placed in the program based on their current skill level.  Interactive games and manipulatives are used to engage students in each learning task.  Vocabulary is a part of every lesson and will help students as they develop a complete and competent understanding of math concepts.

The Touch Math program is also utilized in my classroom to help develop strategies for students to easily add and subtract.  We will also utilize the Touch Money Program for those students working on money skills.

READING

I have three reading programs that will be used in my classroom this year.  Your child will be using one of the following reading programs.

Edmark - For those non-phonemic readers.  This is a sight based reading program that helps students develop a strong foundation of sight based reading words for functional reading.

Sound Sensible:  This is the beginning program for our phonemic reading series. We will explore the letters of the alphabet, the sounds that letters make, rhyming words, word families, writing skills, listening skills, segmenting skills and learning key words to help us begin to read.

S.P.I.R.E (Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence) - This program has several levels.  SPIRE lessons are designed to address phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

**All of the programs integrate multi-sensory activities to help systematically address reading skills.
